Fujifilm launches the Instax Mini 12 camera with new features and faster printout speed

Fujifilm South Africa has announced the latest addition to its popular range of entry-level instant cameras, the Instax Mini 12. The camera follows on from the Instax Mini 11, which was launched in May 2020, and comes with new functionality that makes it even easier to capture a wide range of scenes.

One of the most significant upgrades is the camera’s Close-up mode, which is activated by rotating the lens one step. This mode is perfect for taking close-up shots and selfies, and it eliminates discrepancies between the viewfinder field and the actual printout area, ensuring that users can capture close-up shots without having to adjust the camera’s centre point. Additionally, the Instax Mini 12 features a Selfie Mirror next to the lens, allowing users to check the composition of their finished print while shooting.

Another key feature of the Instax Mini 12 is its faster printout speed. When a picture is taken, the print appears in just five seconds from the time of pressing the shutter button, and the image takes around 90 seconds to fully develop on the Instax print.

The camera also features Automatic Exposure, which automatically determines the correct exposure for a given scene by sensing the level of ambient light when the shutter button is pressed. It then optimises the shutter speed and flash output accordingly.

The Instax Mini 12 comes in five light-toned colors, including Lilac Purple, Pastel Blue, Blossom Pink, Mint Green, and Clay White, and will be available in Japan from March 16th. However, pricing and availability for South Africa are currently unknown.

In addition to the Instax Mini 12, Fujifilm is also launching the new UP! smartphone app for Android and iOS devices. The app is designed for Instax users who want to create digital versions of their prints to share with friends or on social media. The app can be used to digitise Instax prints taken with Instax cameras and smartphone printers, including Mini, Square, and Wide formats.

Using the app, users can scan Instax prints (including frames) on their smartphone, adjust contrast, brightness, vividness, and colour temperature, and register when and where the image was taken. The app also allows users to create a “photo in photo” by combining a scanned Instax print with a favorite background, or compiling a collection of original Instax prints laid out freely to suit their artistic preference.

Once done, users can share the new digital images with friends or on social media directly from the app. The Instax UP! app is available for free download from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

Overall, the Instax Mini 12 and UP! app are exciting additions to Fujifilm’s Instax range, offering users even more flexibility and creativity when it comes to capturing and sharing their memories.
