Chinese electronics maker HONOR revealed its latest smartphone targeted at the upper mid-range market – the X9b 5G. The defining feature of the new handset is its shock-absorbent Ultra-Bounce Anti-Drop Display with 360-degree resistance to drops from up to 1.5 metres.
The HONOR X9b 5G also uses groundbreaking human-centric eye care innovations, including Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) dimming to minimise screen flickering, and dynamic dimming technology that matches brightness levels to ambient lighting and parts of the body’s natural circadian rhythms. These features aim to reduce eye strain during long screen viewing sessions.
Aesthetically, the X9b 5G sports a sleek and modern design, with meticulous craftsmanship evident in its high level of detail and clean lines. It’s available in two complementary colours – Sunrise Orange and Midnight Black.
Another highlight is the 6.78-inch LCD screen boasting support for the 1.5K resolution, a high pixel density, extensive colour gamut coverage, and a dynamic 120Hz refresh rate for fluid gaming and scrolling with minimal battery impact.
According to HONOR, the X9b 5G is now available in South Africa from wireless network carriers MTN, Vodacom, Telkom, and Cell C for 12,999 rand – a competitive price point for a device with a feature set like this.
With innovations in durability and display quality at an accessible cost, the X9b 5G shapes up to be a promising option for buyers seeking an upper mid-ranger. Time will tell if it makes a splash in South Africa’s bustling smartphone scene. But given HONOR’s growing popularity, we wouldn’t bet against it.
