Jaguar TCS Racing is set to compete in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship’s fifth round in Cape Town, South Africa, on February 25, 2023. The race marks the debut of the electric street racing series in sub-Saharan Africa and promises to be one of the fastest of the season. The event will take place on a 2.8km track through the Green Point area, with Table Mountain as a spectacular backdrop.
Jaguar TCS Racing is hoping for a strong performance after a challenging result in Hyderabad, where both of their cars retired. The team has already achieved a podium finish, pole position, fastest lap, and points this season, demonstrating the potential of their Jaguar I-TYPE 6. Kiwi driver Mitch Evans secured his first pole position in the Gen3 era at the Hyderabad race, adding three valuable points to his championship campaign, while Sam Bird has had two top four finishes this season.
Jaguar TCS Racing currently sits fifth in the 2023 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship teams’ standings. The team will be looking to bounce back from their recent setback and put themselves in a position to race for points and podiums in Cape Town.
The team principal, James Barclay, who grew up in South Africa, said that it was a proud moment for him and other South African members of the team to be part of the return of top-tier racing to the country. He added that the track is fast and challenging and will be a test for the teams, drivers, and cars, with the backdrop of Table Mountain, one of the seven natural wonders of the world.
Jaguar currently sells electrified vehicles in South Africa, including the all-electric I-PACE and electric hybrid versions of the F-PACE and E-PACE SUVs. The Cape Town E-Prix will be aired live and repeated on SuperSport, providing a unique opportunity for South African motorsport enthusiasts to witness the spectacle of Formula E racing in their own backyard.
