Kia Unveils Its Latest All-Electric SUV Concept, the Kia Concept EV5, at Kia Chinese EV Day

Kia unveiled its latest concept vehicle, the Kia Concept EV5, at the Kia Chinese EV Day. This all-electric SUV concept is the company’s latest effort in establishing itself as a leader in sustainable mobility solutions and showcases the next pivotal phase of Kia’s transition to electric vehicles.

The Concept EV5 provides a glimpse of a new era of Kia design. Inspired by Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy, which celebrates the fusion of nature and modernity, the vehicle’s aesthetics are unique and bold. The ‘Bold for Nature’ pillar of the philosophy influenced the form and stance of the Concept EV5, creating a distinctive SUV that caters to those who seek a ‘borderless life,’ where there is no boundary between their enjoyment and appreciation of nature and the city.

Kia’s president and CEO, Ho Sung Song, expressed his pride in the Concept EV5 and the company’s mission to become a leader in sustainable mobility solutions. “Kia will enrich our customers’ lifestyles and enable them to pursue personal adventures by setting fresh standards for dynamic and efficient electric driving,” he said.

The Concept EV5 features a new form of Digital Tiger Face and Star Map signature lighting, which introduces a unique constellation connecting the stars to a clean face. The design exudes a futuristic and progressive look from all angles, yet it maintains its authenticity and identity as a member of the Kia family. The paintwork finish, inspired by a rich, formidable hue found in nature – Iceberg matte green, amplifies the SUV’s sculpted lines, square fenders, and powerful stance. The 21-inch wheels and aerodynamic-enhancing roof spoiler complete the picture.

Kia’s designers have equipped the Concept EV5 with intuitive features that blur the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces, giving occupants greater freedom to interact with and appreciate nature. The completely flat floor and generous space found within the cabin create a ‘space of coexistence,’ where nature, people, and technology can come together in harmony. The innovative swivel seats enable occupants to sit in tranquillity and enjoy uninterrupted views of the scenery around them, while the wide, full-length panoramic sunroof, which also acts as solar panels, provides the perfect opportunity for occupants to enjoy the stars as they emerge in the sky above.

To implement Kia’s sustainable development strategy, the Concept EV5 utilises a wide suite of sustainable materials throughout the cabin. Various sustainable items are deployed, including plant-based materials like seaweed extract and upcycled PET bottles on the seats, doors, dashboard, and headliner, setting new standards of sustainability without the use of animal leather.

The production model of the EV5 will be released first in the Chinese market later this year. Details regarding the vehicle’s specifications, performance, and pricing have not yet been released, but it is expected to be a strong contender in the EV market. The Concept EV5 is a significant step for Kia in establishing itself as a leading sustainable mobility solutions provider and showcases the company’s commitment to providing innovative, user-focused, and sustainable electric vehicles.
