Samsung surprised everyone when they dropped an ad for their new foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Flip, during the Oscars.
While images and video of the device have been leaked all over the internet, this is the first time that Samsung has confirmed the existence of the foldable, albeit without mentioning its name.
The ad confirms the clamshell, foldable design of the phone, as well as the two different colourways – purple or black, as well as the tiny secondary display on the outside of the phone which can be used for notifications.
Display creases were a concern for Galaxy Fold owners and it looks like the Galaxy Z Flip will have a slight crease which has prompted Samsung to put a disclaimer at the bottom of the video stating: “you may notice a crease at the center of the main screen which is a natural characteristic of the screen”.
Samsung ends off the ad with the date for their Unpacked event, 11 February 2020, which is where we’ll most likely see the device unveiled.
Winfuture’s Roland Quandt has also uploaded images of the covers that Samsung has made for the Z Flip.
Would you buy the Galaxy Z Flip or would you prefer to wait for the Galaxy Fold 2?
