The all-new Mitsubishi Outlander is set to make a splash in South Africa with its impressive combination of modern design, advanced all-wheel drive technology, and spacious seating for seven passengers. Positioned as the flagship model in the Mitsubishi lineup, the Outlander represents a new era for the iconic Japanese brand, offering a reimagined and reinvented driving experience.

Built on an all-new platform, the Outlander incorporates a range of cutting-edge technologies, including the latest generation four-wheel drive systems and the option for a hybrid drivetrain. Mitsubishi has also focused on improving the overall quality of the vehicle, ensuring that every aspect meets the highest standards.

Jeffrey Allison, General Manager of Marketing at Mitsubishi Motors South Africa (MMSA), expressed his enthusiasm for the new Outlander, stating, “With cutting-edge features, improved quality, and rally-bred performance built into its DNA, the bigger, bolder, next-generation Outlander is nothing short of revolutionary for our iconic brand.”

The all-new Outlander has already received numerous accolades since its global launch, including the prestigious 2022 iF design award and the 2022 Australian Good Design Award. It has also earned a five-star rating in the Japan New Car Assessment Program and was named Technology Car of the Year in the 2021-2022 Japan Car of the Year awards. Most recently, it was awarded Money’s Best for safety in the Plug-In Hybrid SUV category. Now, the Outlander is ready to make its impact on the African market.

The exterior design of the all-new Outlander is characterised by bold and authentic styling, inspired by the Japanese concept of I-Fu-Do-Do, meaning authentic and majestic. The vehicle’s horizontal proportions and jet tail fin pillars, reminiscent of airplane tails, create a commanding presence on the road. The front features Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield design, accentuated by LED front fog lamps, sequential turn signals, and daytime running lights, along with a front skid plate. Similar design elements can be found at the rear, including a skid plate, rear spoiler, and LED high-mounted brake light. The Outlander’s overall appeal is further enhanced by 20-inch alloy wheels and silver roof rails.

Under the hood, the all-new Outlander boasts Mitsubishi’s latest generation 2.5-liter Duel VVT DOHC engine. This engine utilises Direct-Injection technology to deliver an exhilarating 135kW at 6,000rpm and 245Nm at 3,600rpm. Paired with a simulated eight-speed CVT transmission, the Outlander offers seamless acceleration, refined gear changes, and a superior driving experience. Drivers can customise their driving experience through various drive modes, including Eco, Normal, Tarmac, Gravel, Snow, and Mud, which adjust throttle sensitivity, shift patterns, and the AWD system for optimal performance and efficiency.

The CVT transmission not only keeps the engine in the sweet spot for improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions but also contributes to the Outlander’s exceptional off-road capabilities. With 210mm of ground clearance and the addition of Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC), the Outlander ensures maximum control and traction in various driving conditions. The S-AWC system features six drive modes that allow drivers to adjust the electronically controlled four-wheel drive system according to their needs or the terrain. The system works in conjunction with Active Yaw Control, which enhances safety and traction by controlling the distribution of torque between the left and right wheels.

Inside the cabin, the all-new Outlander exudes luxury and comfort, thanks to its premium materials and soft-touch surfaces. The interior features quilted leather door inserts, a black headliner, and pillars that elevate the overall ambiance. The leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel is tilt and telescopic adjustable and incorporates cruise control buttons and paddle shifters for added convenience. The vehicle’s user experience is enhanced by a 12.3-inch Digital Driver Display, accompanied by an eight-inch Smartphone-Link display on GLS models or a nine-inch Smartphone-Link Display Audio display with navigation on Aspire models. Both systems support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring functionality. Passenger comfort and entertainment are ensured with a six-speaker sound system and three-zone automatic climate control.

The spacious interior of the all-new Outlander offers versatile seating configurations and ample cargo space. The 60/40 split rear seats feature a flat-folding function accessible via a one-touch folding lever, allowing for various loading needs. Whether it’s passengers or cargo, the Outlander is designed to accommodate every requirement.

In terms of safety, the all-new Outlander incorporates Mitsubishi Motor’s RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) body, which combines ultra-high tensile strength steel around the passenger compartment with high impact-absorbing front body structure. This design provides enhanced protection for occupants. Additionally, the Outlander comes equipped with seven SRS airbags as standard, along with ABS brakes, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Emergency Stop signal System, Hill Start Assist, Hill Decent Control, and Active Stability and Traction Control. Advanced driver assistance features, such as dusk-sensing LED headlights that automatically adjust the illumination range and brightness, further contribute to overall safety.

The all-new Outlander comes in two trim levels: GLS and Aspire. The GLS model offers an extensive range of standard features, including a keyless operation system with an engine switch, front and rear park distance control, a rear-view camera, heated synthetic leather seats with suede combination, and an automatic tailgate. The Aspire model adds leather seats, an eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat with power lumbar support and memory function, and a power sliding panoramic sunroof.

Mitsubishi Motors South Africa offers a comprehensive warranty and service plan for the Outlander. The Manufacturer’s Warranty covers three years or 100,000km, while Roadside Assistance is provided for five years with unlimited mileage. The Service Plan extends for five years or 90,000km, with service intervals scheduled every 15,000km.

To further cater to customer preferences, Mitsubishi will make a range of accessory packages available for the Outlander. These packages will allow customers to personalise and equip their vehicles according to their taste and specific needs, with components that match the fit and finish of factory-fitted parts.

Pricing for the Mitsubishi Outlander starts at R729,995 for the GLS model and R759,995 for the Aspire model.
