The D-MAX Arctic AT35: A Powerful Off-Roader with Unmatched Capabilities

Big, bold, and ready to conquer any terrain, the D-MAX Arctic AT35 emerges as the second iteration of ISUZU‘s exceptional double cab bakkie. Created in collaboration with Arctic Trucks, renowned for their expertise in producing formidable overlanding vehicles, the locally assembled D-MAX Arctic AT35 is an exclusive model available through special order, ensuring a limited production and an unmatched level of exclusivity.

Kevin Fouche, Department Executive: Product Planning and Programme Management at ISUZU Motors South Africa, highlights the legacy carried by the new D-MAX Arctic AT35 from its predecessor, stating, “We launched the first-generation D-MAX Arctic AT35 in 2019, and it quickly earned an enviable reputation as one of the boldest, toughest, and most capable 4×4 bakkies on the market. The latest model asserts its unique positioning in the local bakkie segment with even bolder, more muscular styling that unashamedly points to the vehicle’s ability to tackle and conquer the toughest terrain with supreme confidence.”

The D-MAX AT35 is meticulously crafted at the ISUZU Motors South Africa plant in Struandale, Gqeberha, making it the only ISUZU facility in the world authorized by Arctic Trucks to produce this remarkable vehicle. While the production takes place on the same assembly line as the standard D-MAX models, the Arctic Trucks conversion area in the body shop comes to life as skilled artisans and technicians add muscular bodywork enhancements such as larger wheel wells and arches to accommodate the impressive 35-inch tires and upgraded suspension.

Complementing its robust exterior, the D-MAX Arctic AT35 features an array of exclusive elements, including AT35 chrome badges, wider profile side steps, and Arctic Trucks mudflaps. The distinct 17×10-inch AT black alloy wheels are fitted with 35-inch BF Goodrich all-terrain tires, while a 18-inch spare wheel resides beneath the loadbox, accompanied by a ResQ Puncture Repair Kit for convenience.

Underneath its commanding exterior, the AT35 boasts a specially developed suspension, including a purpose-designed lift kit that increases ground clearance to 266 mm and vehicle height to 1875 mm, enhancing its off-road capabilities. Bilstein dampers strike a balance between on-road composure and sure-footed off-road performance. With an improved wading depth of 865 mm, steeper approach angle, and enhanced departure and break-over angles, the D-MAX Arctic AT35 confidently tackles even the most challenging obstacles.

The D-MAX Arctic AT35 retains the proven part-time four-wheel drive system, offering two-wheel drive for on-road use and four-wheel drive high and low-range modes for off-road adventures. Engaging the electronic rear differential lock enables the vehicle to conquer the toughest terrains. Powering the AT35 is ISUZU’s trusted 3.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, delivering an impressive peak power output of 140 kW at 3,600 r/min and 450 Nm of torque from 1,800-2,800 r/min. This engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, providing faster shifts and improved fuel economy.

Derived from the range-topping V-Cross model, the D-MAX Arctic AT35 embodies luxury, safety, and advanced technology. The interior showcases leather-trimmed seats embroidered with the AT35 logo, complemented by piano black finishes and leather trim throughout. An array of features includes an eight-way electric driver’s seat with lumbar support, a multi-display digital instrument cluster, a large 9-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay, and wireless charging for compatible smartphones.

The D-MAX Arctic AT35 prioritizes safety, incorporating advanced driver assistance features such as Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), Lane Departure Prevention (LDP), Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS), and Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK). Additional safety features include front and rear parking sensors, Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, rear radar, and the Multi Collision Brake (MCB) function. The V-Cross model is equipped with various airbags, including a far side airbag that prevents the front seat occupants’ heads from colliding.

The D-MAX Arctic AT35 comes with ISUZU’s comprehensive five-year/90,000 km service plan, 5-year/120,000 km warranty, roadside assistance, and 5-year/unlimited distance anti-corrosion warranty. Service intervals are every 15,000 km or 12 months, offering ultimate peace of mind to the adventurous drivers who choose this exceptional bakkie.
