Checkers Sixty60, South Africa’s leading on-demand grocery delivery service, has launched a new delivery guarantee – a first of its kind in the country’s retail industry. The service promises to give customers their delivery for free if it arrives more than 30 minutes after the estimated time of arrival. Additionally, if an order contains less than 80% of a customer’s first-choice products, the delivery will also be free.
Neil Schreuder, Chief Strategy Officer for the Shoprite Group, explains that the new Service Guarantee aims to make shopping effortless for customers, even during tricky situations such as traffic congestion, loadshedding, or rainy weather conditions that can affect drivers on the road.
Launched in November 2019, Checkers Sixty60 revolutionised on-demand grocery delivery in South Africa. With a delivery promise of just 60 minutes and a fee of R35, the service has become the go-to for customers looking for quick and efficient grocery delivery. The Sixty60 app has been downloaded over 3.1 million times, and the service now delivers in over 400 locations across the country.
Sixty60’s sales have also seen a surge in recent times, with an 87% increase in sales during the most recent reporting period to December 2022, on top of a 250% surge in the prior period. The service’s popularity can be attributed to its ability to offer in-store pricing, including Xtra Savings promotions and personalised rewards, which are not available on other on-demand grocery delivery services in South Africa.
In the event that the service promise is not upheld, the R35 delivery fee will be credited to a customer’s Sixty60 wallet to be used against any future orders for a week after the original order. To inform customers of this new Service Guarantee, a tongue-in-cheek ad campaign has been launched under the hashtag #Sixty60 Service Guarantee | Delivery Showdown.
