After weeks of leaks, Samsung has launched two new mid-range 5G smartphones, the Galaxy A55 5G and Galaxy A35 5G, packed with upgraded security features and improved camera capabilities.
“We are expanding our latest technologies to a wider audience so that more people can benefit from them,” said TM Roh, Samsung’s President of Mobile Experience Business. “We’re proud to enable Galaxy A series users to safely and reliably enjoy outstanding mobile experiences.”
Security Upgrades
For the first time on Samsung’s A series, the new models include the Samsung Knox Vault security solution. Knox Vault is a hardware-based, tamper-resistant environment isolated from the main processor to protect critical data like lock screen credentials and encryption keys, even if the device is lost or stolen.
The phones also feature Samsung’s multi-layered Knox security platform, as well as an optional Auto Blocker package that can block unauthorised app installations, scan for malware, and prevent potentially malicious USB commands.
Better Photography
The Galaxy A55 5G boasts an enhanced Nightography mode with advanced AI processing for clearer low-light photos. It packs a triple rear camera setup (50MP main, 5MP macro, 12MP ultra-wide) and a 32MP front camera.
The A35 5G has a 50MP main, 8MP ultra-wide, and 5MP macro triple rear system plus a 13MP selfie cam. Both models include optical and digital image stabilisation.
Immersive Displays
The phones feature 6.6-inch Super AMOLED displays with a 120Hz refresh rate and Samsung’s Vision Booster technology to boost visibility in bright outdoor conditions.
Durable Design
Samsung equipped the A55 5G and A35 5G with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ for increased durability and an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance up to 1 meter for 30 minutes.
Ecosystem Connectivity
The new A series devices integrate with Samsung’s Galaxy ecosystem, connecting to Galaxy Fit, Galaxy Watch, and Galaxy Buds wireless earbuds via features like Auto Switch.
Extended Software Support
Both the Galaxy A55 5G and A35 5G will receive up to four generations of Android OS upgrades and five years of security updates from Samsung.
“These innovative new additions to the much-loved A series mean more options for our customers, both old and new. The Galaxy A55 5G and A35 5G offer great features and the latest in our mobile technologies. We are particularly thrilled that they have something for both loyal fans of the series and those looking to join the exciting Galaxy world,” said Justin Hume, Vice President of Mobile eXperience at Samsung South Africa.”
Samsung is positioning the new mid-rangers as an affordable way to experience its latest mobile innovations in AI, imaging, displays, and enterprise-grade security. The Galaxy A55 5G and A35 5G will be available starting April 1.
