Fujifilm is back with another iteration of its runaway instant photography hit. The company has announced the Instax Mini 13, following up on the Instax Mini 12 from 2023 with subtle design tweaks, group-shot quality-of-life perks, and an AI-boosted companion app.
While the core recipe remains tactile and immediate (twist the lens ring to turn it on, snap, and wait for your film to develop), Fujifilm has addressed a couple of nagging pain points when it comes to framing. The Mini 13 introduces built-in dual self-timers with two-second and 10-second settings. The two-second option is tuned for handheld selfies to cut down on motion blur, while the 10-second countdown lets you actually run into the frame. To help with that, the camera’s hand strap now features a built-in wedge accessory designed to prop the camera up on flat surfaces at an angle, sparing you the hassle of balancing it against a coffee cup or water bottle.

Visually, the Mini 13 gets a sculpted, rounded aesthetic accented by a metallic silver badge. Returning features include automatic exposure, auto flash control, a built-in selfie mirror on the lens, and Close-Up Mode with parallax correction. The parallax adjustment aligns the viewfinder with the actual lens barrel at distances between 0.3 m and 0.5 m, ensuring your close-up subjects stay properly centred rather than awkwardly cut off.
On the software side, Fujifilm is giving its Instax UP! app an AI upgrade. The app, which digitises analogue prints through your phone’s camera, now uses machine learning models to cleanly distinguish between the white border of a print and the surface it is resting on. It is a welcome touch for anyone who loves keeping physical prints on the fridge while archiving clean, glare-free copies for social feeds.
To mark the launch, Fujifilm is also rolling out a new Instax Mini Sprinkles film pack sporting a rainbow sprinkle border.
The Instax Mini 13 arrives in five pastel finishes: Candy Pink, Clay White, Frost Blue, Dreamy Purple, and Lagoon Green. In South Africa, the standalone camera retails for a recommended price of R1 749 including VAT. A bundle kit that throws in a matching protective case and a pack of Mini film is also available for R2 199.
