Discovery Vitality has announced upgrades to its popular Vitality Active Rewards platform. The platform tracks members’ exercise, driving and spending, and rewards them for meeting weekly goals with incentives and rewards. Vitality Active Rewards was launched in South Africa in 2015 and has grown to over 725,000 registered users.
The platform uses micro-incentives and instant gratification to encourage positive behaviour, gamifying physical activity to encourage users to make healthier choices. Members earn a weekly play on a gameboard for achieving their Exercise, Drive or Spend goals, with each play revealing hidden rewards of varying values paid in Discovery’s rewards currency, which is more valuable than cash.
The enhancements to Vitality Active Rewards make the platform more personalised and rewarding than ever before, according to Discovery Vitality CEO Dinesh Govender. Members can now choose between an instant reward, such as a coffee or donation to MoveToGive (Discovery’s philanthropic platform), or wait to play on the gameboard on Rewards Wednesday.
New rewards include the ability to earn grocery, pharmacy and fuel spend back in Discovery Miles, a Rewards Multiplier for achieving specific Exercise goal streaks, and Rest Weeks for members who have achieved a 25-week goal achievement streak. Members can also benefit from Sneak Peeks, Activity Tiles and a Discovery Tile.
According to a study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, members who had been on the Vitality Active Rewards programme for one year or longer more than doubled their physical activity.
The enhancements are now live on the platform, upgraded safely and securely in the Discovery Bank app. For members who don’t have a Discovery Bank account, a zero-monthly-fee Ðiscovery Account has been created so that they can enjoy the upgraded Vitality Active Rewards. Members who activate a Discovery Bank transaction account, credit card or full banking suite can enjoy even bigger rewards. For members who don’t download the Discovery Bank app, their existing Vitality Active Rewards experience will remain unchanged in the Discovery app.
