The trailer was debuted by the two stars during ABC’s live broadcast of the 95th Annual Academy Awards.
“The Little Mermaid” follows the story of Ariel, the youngest daughter of King Triton, a beautiful and adventurous mermaid who falls in love with a human prince named Eric. Despite the mermaids being forbidden from interacting with humans, Ariel makes a deal with the evil sea witch Ursula, putting her life and her father’s kingdom at risk.
Directed by Rob Marshall, the film features an all-star cast including Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Daveed Diggs as the voice of Sebastian, Awkwafina as the voice of Scuttle, Jacob Tremblay as the voice of Flounder, Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina, Art Malik as Sir Grimsby, and Javier Bardem as King Triton.
The film’s music features a mix of classic and new songs from the original composer Alan Menken and new lyrics from Tony Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda, as well as lyrics from Howard Ashman. The screenplay was written by David Magee, a two-time Oscar nominee.
The film is produced by Marc Platt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, John DeLuca, and Rob Marshall, with Jeffrey Silver serving as executive producer. The new soundtrack for the film is already available for pre-order, pre-save, or pre-add.
