Google’s Nearby Share now allows file sharing between Android and PC

Google’s Nearby Share is now available as a beta app for Windows, allowing Android users to easily transfer files, documents, photos, and links between their Android devices and Windows PCs. The app was first announced at CES 2022 and is now finally available in the US and select regions worldwide.

To get started users will need to download and install the application on their Windows 10 or higher PC. Once installed, the app works seamlessly in the background and doesn’t require users to keep it open on their desktop. Users can simply drag and drop files into the app or right-click on a file and select “Send with Nearby Share” to begin the transfer process.

Nearby Share also lets you share files between your devices without the need for manual acceptance, as long as both devices are logged into the same Google account. This means that files can be transferred automatically, even if the device’s screen is off.

One of the benefits of Nearby Share is that it provides an alternative to Microsoft’s own Phone Link app, which is most effective with Samsung devices. Nearby Share offers a broader range of support for Android phones, making it a great option for those looking for file transfers across multiple Android devices.

While the feature is currently limited to Android smartphones and tablets, Google plans to expand official support to share content with other Google ecosystem devices.
