Huawei has announced the start of the HUAWEI XMAGE Awards 2023, an annual photography competition that celebrates creativity and inspiration, showcasing amazing photos and videos captured with Huawei devices from around the world. With nearly 4 million entries submitted since its inception in 2017, the competition has become a cultural heritage of its own, representing human history from a global perspective.
This year, the competition has taken a new direction, aiming to inspire photographers worldwide, whether amateur or professional, to seek inspiration in their photography. The competition is named after Huawei’s proprietary Imaging Research & Development arm, XMAGE, which focuses on optical systems, mechanical structures, imaging technology, and image processing in photography. These four pillars of XMAGE now form the foundation of Huawei’s latest smartphone camera technology, such as the Ultra Aperture Camera in the HUAWEI Mate 50 Series and the Ultra Lighting Telephoto Camera in the HUAWEI P60 Pro.
The HUAWEI XMAGE Awards 2023 has eight categories: Night Walk, Portrait, Art & Fashion, Outdoor, Hello Life, Storyboard, Action, and Storytelling. A new addition this year is the Night Walk category, which encourages users to capture the hidden wonders of the night using Huawei’s unique night-photo settings.
The competition offers attractive prizes, including three Grand Prizes, 24 Best-in-Category awards, 27 Runner-up awards, and five Honourable Mentions. The winners stand a chance of winning up to USD 10,000 in prize money. The competition has invited a new set of judges, including Molife Kumona, Editor-in-Chief of GQ South Africa, and five leaders in photography from China, Portugal, Australia, and Huawei Consumer Business Group.
The competition is open to anyone with a Huawei mobile phone and will accept entries until 23H59 GMT+8 on August 15, 2023. Submissions can be made via the unified global submission channel on the XMAGE Awards 2023 website or through the Huawei Community platform. There are no restrictions on when the work was captured or using which Huawei mobile phone.
