Huawei’s new Matebook X Pro is a premium ultra-portable laptop

Earlier this year, Huawei re-introduced their laptop range, the MateBook series, to South Africa with the mid-range MateBook 14 and 15.

The company is adding another laptop to their line-up in the form of the premium ultra-portable MateBook X Pro.

Intuitive Design

The 2020 MateBook X Pro sports a svelte metallic body made of an aluminium-magnesium alloy usually used in aviation. This ensures that the device is lightweight and durable.

Huawei has ensured that the same attention to detail found in all their other devices, is found on the MateBook X Pro with everything being designed to meet the highest standards and performance which you can see in every aspect of the device’s premium design.

Packing a stunning 13.9-inch 3K Ultra FullView display on a 12-inch body and weighing only 1.33kg, the MateBook X Pro is the perfect device to meet all your productivity and content creation needs no matter where you are.

The display supports an up to 3000×2000 resolution with 260PPI and has a 1500:1 contrast ratio. It also supports the 100% sRGB colour gamut and boasts 450 nits peak brightness. The 10-point multi-touch display has a fingerprint coating and lets you take a screenshot by simply swiping down on the display with three fingers.

One of the many intelligent design decisions you’ll find on the MateBook X Pro is the recessed webcam. Huawei designed the camera so that it sits discretely amongst the function keys on the keyboard, thereby eliminating any privacy concerns as well as ensuring that nothing interrupts the beautiful display. Using it is as easy as pushing it and then it pops up. Another security-focused feature is the inclusion of a Windows Hello compatible fingerprint unlock power button.

Huawei has also ensured that you won’t be lacking when it comes to ports thanks to the inclusion of two USB-C ports, a full-sized USB-type-A port and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The most standout design feature of the MateBook X Pro is not the gorgeous display, but rather the sophisticated new Emerald Green colourway which joins the two classic colours – Space Gray and Mystic Silver – from last year’s model.

Seamless connectivity

One of my favourite features of any Huawei device is Huawei Share and I’m really glad that it’s available on the MateBook X Pro. With Huawei Share, multiple devices can interact seamlessly which gives you a more connected experience. This is most evident with Multi-screen Collaboration between Huawei MateBook products and Huawei smartphones. Multi-screen Collaboration enables a multitude of features including:

  • Transfer files between Huawei smartphones and MateBook products, now you can view, transfer or edit documents, images, and texts quicker than ever.
  • Extend your phone, use hardware such as a keyboard, mouse, and even advanced input from your laptop on your phone.
  • Control Android apps from your phone to your Matebook, including video, news, and office apps.

The MateBook X Pro takes Multi Collaboration even further by letting you initiate calls, video chat, or open – and compose or edit – documents on your phone with laptop applications.

Powering all of these amazing features is a 56 Wh battery rated for up to 13 hours local video playback, 15 hours for regular work and 11 hours for internet browsing. Charging the laptop is a breeze and lightning-fast thanks to the included 65 W USB-C Power Adapter which boasts Huawei SuperCharge technology making it compatible with select Huawei phones.

The Huawei MateBook X Pro will be available online and in select stores from 16 November.
