Huawei’s unveiling the Mate X7 foldable and new devices in Dubai

Huawei’s holding its “Unfold the Moment” product launch event in Dubai today, 11 December 2025, unveiling the Mate X7 foldable smartphone alongside several other devices. The lineup includes the FreeClip 2 open-ear earbuds, the WATCH ULTIMATE DESIGN smartwatch, and the MatePad 11.5 S tablet.

The Mate X7 is the headliner here, continuing Huawei’s push in the foldable space that started with the original Mate X in 2019. According to an IDC report, Huawei held a 75% market share in China’s foldable phone market in the first half of 2025, shipping over ten million devices. The company says the Mate X7 features “dual-fold technology” that improves reliability and comes with what it’s calling one of the most impressive camera systems in the smartphone industry.

Huawei’s had a strong run with foldables, at least in its home market. The Pura X, which launched in China earlier this year, showed Huawei’s willingness to experiment with form factors. Dubai’s where Huawei typically takes products global. It’s not just a launch location, it’s the company’s preferred stage for international announcements. US sanctions still limit Huawei’s access to critical technologies like 5G chipsets and Google services, but the company’s worked around those constraints in its home market. The question is whether that translates globally.

The FreeClip 2 builds on the original FreeClip’s open-ear design with improvements to audio quality and comfort. The WATCH ULTIMATE DESIGN is positioned as Huawei’s premium wearable, featuring luxury materials and precious metals. The MatePad 11.5 S tablet gets an updated PaperMatte display that’s designed for work and study on the go.

Huawei’s Dubai launch makes sense strategically. It’s a global stage without being Western, and it lets the company showcase its latest hardware to international media and consumers. Whether these devices make it to markets outside of China and the Middle East remains to be seen, but Huawei’s clearly not slowing down on product development despite its market constraints.
