Pricey, premium laptops are nothing new and often choosing a new laptop means shelling out a small fortune for a device that marries power and portability. The problem with laptops like that is that they’re usually geared for business users and to put it simply, they’re boring to look at.
Not so with the AMD-powered Lenovo Z13.
A sleek and compact ultrabook, the Lenovo Z13 boasts impressive performance and a range of features that are sure to appeal to business users and professionals on the go. With an all-metal construction and a range of color options, the Z13 looks and feels like a premium machine, and it certainly delivers in terms of performance and functionality.
One of the standout features of the ThinkPad Z13 is its AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 6650U Processor, which offers impressive speed and power for such a small device. With up to 4.50 GHz Max Boost, 6 Cores, 12 Threads, and 16 MB Cache, this processor can handle even the most demanding tasks with ease.
The 13.3-inch WUXGA (1920 x 1200) IPS screen is another highlight of the Z13, with its anti-glare, low power, 400 nits, 100% sRGB, and low blue light technology. This screen is bright, clear, and easy on the eyes, making it perfect for long hours of work or entertainment. The laptop also comes with an IR & 1080p FHD Hybrid camera, which is great for video conferencing and other online meetings.
The Z13’s design is another area where it shines, with its all-metal construction and sleek lines giving it a premium feel. The laptop comes in two style options: Arctic Grey Recycled Aluminum and Bronze with Black Recycled PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) Vegan Leather. Our review unit was the Bronze with Vegan Leather option, which looked and felt great in a refined, understated way. The Z13 also has an extended profile, which I’m tempted to call the reverse notch, at the very top of the screen that serves to allow easier opening, which is a clever design choice.
However, there are a few downsides to the Z13’s design that are worth mentioning. The keyboard extends to the very edge of the chassis, leaving little room for wrist rests or the touchpad. The glass-haptic TouchPad is also a bit tricky to use, with a multi-touch nature that can be unintuitive for existing touchpad users. Additionally, there is no integrated privacy cover for the camera, which is a major oversight for a laptop aimed at business users.
In terms of connectivity, the Z13 has two USB Type-C ports, a headphone/mic combo port, and an optional adapter for HDMI. It also has Qualcomm Wi-Fi 6E NFA725A 2×2 AX and Bluetooth 5.1, providing fast and reliable wireless connectivity.
Overall, the Lenovo ThinkPad Z13 is a compact and highly portable ultrabook that delivers impressive performance and a range of features that are sure to appeal to business users and professionals on the go. While there are a few design flaws to be aware of, such as the lack of wrist rests and the tricky touchpad, the Z13 is still a great choice for those who need a powerful and reliable laptop for work or play.
