rain, a South African mobile communications company, has partnered with MediaTek, a global fabless semiconductor company, to bring fast, reliable 5G network access to more households across the country. This collaboration will see rain standardise on MediaTek for customer premises equipment (CPE) as it seeks to expand broadband access to a wider population.
The partnership is the latest step in rain’s ongoing efforts to make 5G technology more accessible and affordable to South Africans. As part of the agreement, rain will utilise MediaTek’s T750 platform to power its the101 5G smart router. This compact and stylish device is designed to provide superior 5G speeds and AX3600 Wi-Fi connectivity, making it an ideal solution for homes and businesses that require high-speed internet access.

“Fixed wireless broadband via 5G brings high-speed connectivity to more of the population in South Africa, including many households outside but also inside of fibre coverage areas, which is a proof of the flexibility and quality of 5G FWA,” said Rami Osman, Director for Business Development, MediaTek Middle East and Africa. “We are excited to collaborate with Rain on CPE projects using our T750 and T830 chipsets to open up new markets and help consumers experience ultra fast internet access with 5G no matter where they live.”
rain CEO, Brandon Leigh, added, “This strategic collaboration enables us to build high-performance, smart customer premises equipment (CPE) products on a leading-edge platform, enabling our customers to get the best experience possible.”
rain’s decision to standardise on MediaTek for CPE highlights the company’s commitment to providing its customers with the best possible 5G experience. MediaTek is a world-leader in the development of 5G technology, and its T750 platform is a proven solution for delivering high-performance, reliable 5G connectivity.
In addition to its performance advantages, the T750 platform also offers a number of other benefits for rain customers. The platform is highly power-efficient, which means that the101™ router will consume less electricity and save customers money on their energy bills. The platform also supports a wide range of features, including dual-band Wi-Fi, a built-in SIM card, and a touchscreen display.
