HMD Global, the home of Nokia phones, has announced the launch of three new Nokia smartphones – Nokia G22, Nokia C22 and Nokia C32 – that continue to emphasise durability, longevity, and repairability. The G22 is the first Nokia smartphone purposefully designed with repairability at its core, with the collaboration of iFixit (in select regions with local alternatives for South Africa, a global repair community that provides easy access to repair guides, tools, and affordable parts. The C32 offers the highest image quality yet in the C-series and features a 50MP camera and advanced imaging algorithms. The C22 is a durability champion that outperforms the competition in rigorous free fall tests and features an improved dual 13MP camera.
All three smartphones come with up to three days of battery life, two years of Android OS upgrades, three years of monthly security updates, and an extended three-year warranty at no extra cost. The Nokia G22 also comes with a 100% recycled plastic back and OZO Playback that delivers enhanced bass and clearer sound.
According to Ben Wood, Chief Analyst at CCS Insight, the ability to repair smartphones easily and affordably will become a key differentiator in the market as consumers increasingly demand more sustainable and longer-lasting devices. HMD Global’s commitment to repairability with the Nokia G22 is a step in the right direction, and it reflects the end user research conducted by CCS Insight, where approximately half of mobile phone users in Western Europe say they would like to be able to have their device repaired at a reasonable cost if they break outside of the warranty period.
In addition to its commitment to repairability, HMD Global has also announced its first steps in a journey to become the first major global smartphone provider to bring manufacturing to Europe. In 2023, the company plans to develop capabilities and processes to bring 5G Nokia device production to Europe, a move that will further strengthen its security promises and its position as the only major European smartphone provider.
