Ring Announces Second Generation of Indoor Camera

Ring, the Amazon-owned home security and smart home company, has launched the second generation of the Indoor Cam, introducing an additional layer of privacy and security for homeowners. The Indoor Camera (2nd Gen) stands out as Ring’s first security camera equipped with a manual, removable privacy cover. This cover deactivates audio and video recording when placed over the camera lens, offering customers greater control and peace of mind when it comes to personalising their privacy and security at home.

The Indoor Camera (2nd Gen) is a compact, indoor-only camera that inherits all the advantages of the first-generation Indoor Cam. This includes features like Two-Way Talk, 1080p HD video, Live View, Customisable Motion and Privacy Zones, now enhanced with features like Colour Night Vision and an upgraded design. With the newly introduced privacy cover, users gain more control over what their device records. When the privacy cover is positioned in front of the camera lens, the microphone and camera of the Indoor Camera (2nd Gen) automatically turn off. Users can reactivate video and audio capture by simply moving the Privacy Cover to the side. If in doubt, they can verify the camera’s status through the Ring app, which displays a blue LED indicator light when video or night vision is active. The Automatic Light Sensing feature allows the camera to detect low lighting conditions, automatically activating night vision.

Moreover, the adjustable mount design and plug-in AC power make it possible for customers to position the Indoor Camera (2nd Gen) almost anywhere in their homes by plugging it into any available power outlet.

Mohammad Meraj Hoda, Vice President – Emerging Markets, Ring, stated, “Our customers value peace of mind, but they also prioritise their privacy. The second-generation Indoor Camera, with its manual privacy cover, is another step towards giving our customers greater control over their security. It not only allows them to enjoy the benefits of smart home security without compromising their privacy but also demonstrates Ring’s commitment to continuously ensuring our customers have complete peace of mind.”

The Indoor Camera (2nd Gen) provides video End-to-End Encryption for an extra layer of data security. It is compatible with Alexa and seamlessly integrates with other Ring devices through Linked Devices on the Ring app, allowing for triggered video recording when motion is detected by connected Ring devices at home.

Availability

The Indoor Camera (2nd Gen) will be available from October 2023 at various retailers, including Takealot, Leroy Merlin, Incredible Connections, Builders Warehouse, and ClearAccess, at a retail price of R1,199.00.
