This past weekend, Sony‘s “Create Now, Create Next” masterclass cast a spell over Johannesburg, imparting “content magic” to budding filmmakers and photographers. The full-day event on 11 May brought together respected industry experts and eager students for an immersive learning experience.
The masterclass allowed established professionals and novices to converge and share knowledge in line with Sony’s philosophy of peer-to-peer education. As Jobin Joejoe, Managing Director at Sony Middle East and Africa, explained: “Excelling at content creation is not just about putting the best equipment in someone’s hands but to create a platform where young and established talent can come together and learn from their peers.”

The impressive speaker lineup included content creators Thato Rampedi, Gugu Nyatsumba, Lesedi Mothoagae, and Mpumelelo “Frypan,” as well as post-production manager Segopotso Thothela, Sony’s Burger Terblanche, and Converse’s Tebogo Motlhamme. They led insightful sessions covering essentials like gear selection, lighting techniques, and post-production wizardry.
Joining the ranks were 10 students from AFDA and Converse influencers, chosen to build their skills. Through hands-on sessions and one-on-one mentoring, these rising talents soaked up knowledge from the pros. The atmosphere crackled with creative energy as generations of content makers collaborated.
As the event wrapped up, attendees buzzed with new ideas and techniques to implement. The “Create Now, Create Next” masterclass exemplified Sony’s dedication to cultivating talent and stoking creativity’s spark.
