Vivo’s Apex line is the company’s annual concept phone which first began with the 2018 model which featured a pop-up selfie camera and in-display fingerprint scanner. The 2019 model made headlines with its buttonless, unibody design. Now the company has unveiled the 2020 Apex.
Originally meant to be unveiled at MWC 2020, the new Apex features a buttonless unibody design and an in-display selfie camera, which means that there’s no need for a pop-up camera or a hole-punch cutout or notch.
The 2020 Apex goes even further and has a gimbal-like structure embedded in the main camera which results in the entire camera module, not just a single lens, being stabilised. The camera itself has a 5x – 7.5x optical zoom which, in theory, means that you could achieve 7.5x zoom without any loss of image quality.
Harry Hong, General Manager of Product, vivo said, “APEX is never a mere ‘concept’ or a glimpse of ‘imagination’. It’s a creation that goes beyond any previous experience brought by mobile technology. Through APEX 2020, we are proud to see vivo’s vision come to life as a technology company that continues to push the boundaries of mobile technology and explore what lies beyond the ordinary. It also showcases our ambition to achieve our aspirations step-by-step. vivo will continue to put APEX’s innovative technologies into practice, allowing more consumers to be empowered by such technology.”
The 2020 Apex also boasts 60W Wireless Super FlashCharge, 3rd Generation Screen SoundCasting Technology, Instant Photobomb Removal, Voice Tracking Auto-Focus and a 6.45-inch curved display that bends at an angle of up to 120° on both sides.
