Canon South Africa has launched the EOS R8, a new full-frame mirrorless camera. Inheriting technology from the feature-rich EOS R6 Mark II, the EOS R8 is the ideal choice for portrait, event, and landscape photography. With its compact design similar to the EOS RP, this new camera gives photography and videography enthusiasts and students the tools they need to unleash their creativity.
The R8 features a 24.2 megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor capable of capturing full-width 4K 60p footage, oversampled from 6K sensor data. With improved dynamic range, low noise high ISO up to 102,400, and a fast read-out speed, the EOS R8 is perfect for shooting in low-light environments. With a weight of approximately 461g, the camera is Canon’s lightest full-frame EOS R System camera to date. The camera features a high-resolution 2.36m dot EVF, UHS-II SD card support, and an intuitive interface.
The advanced Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system, used in the EOS R5 and EOS R6 Mark II, enables the EOS R8 to focus in as little as 0.03 seconds with the electronic shutter. The camera’s intelligent system tracks a range of subjects, including animals, vehicles, and people, with head, face, and eye detection for precision focus. With built-in 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, users can easily share their work and make use of the Camera Connect app.
Accompanying the launch of the EOS R8 is the RF 24-50mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM, a small and lightweight RF series zoom lens. The lens is a great choice for improving photography and videography skills, especially when shooting portraits, interiors, or travel. With advanced image stabilisation, the lens enables photographers and videographers to shoot in low light without the need for a tripod.
