HONOR confirms Android compatibility

With the recent lift of the US ban, HONOR has confirmed that Google and its affiliated programs will continue to operate on HONOR devices.

Reflecting on the announcement, Raymond Liu, Head of HONOR South Africa articulates the company’s position as a long-standing Android partner.

“As a company, we have made substantial contributions to the development and growth of Android around the world”, explains Liu. “As one of Android’s key global partners, we have worked closely with their open-source platform to develop an ecosystem that has benefitted both users and the industry “.

“HONOR devices will continue running Google’s Android OS, while users will be able to continue using Google services such as Google Play and Gmail along with required updates. We as the HONOR brand will continue to build a safe and sustainable software ecosystem, in order to provide the best experience for all users globally.”

Although closely relatable with HONOR and Huawei sharing research and development resources, HONOR has its own product development team, enabling it to offer exclusive functionalities based on the needs of today’s technology-centric consumers.

The brand has made headway in recent months, with the current HONOR devices in South Africa earning a reputation as a budget-friendly smartphone alternative that features premier features and innovations.

“HONOR has elevated its position in the South African market since inception, and we are well on track to claim the number 4 position in the smartphone segment in which we operate,” claims Liu. “Although the tough external environment brought us some challenges, we managed the business continuity, and we will bring more products to the market soon, including high-end and budget-friendly phones.”

HONOR currently attributes its South African market success to the recent launch of its HONOR 10 Lite device, as well as the HONOR 8X, HONOR8S, and HONOR 8A devices respectively. HONOR devices are available through Vodacom, Cell C, and Foschini Group stores nationwide, with packages starting from R169pm x 24 months making them affordable and an extremely competitive alternative.
