Conclusion

While Samsung’s 2024 lineup promises something for everyone, it appears that yet again, the only benefit offered by the Fold is a larger display. The S24 Ultra offers a bigger battery, better cameras and comes with a built-in S-Pen, while the Flip borrows 2 of the 3 main cameras from the S24 and S24+ with the same size battery as the standard S24.

Out of the 2 new foldables launched, it’s the Z Flip 6 that continues to be the mist fun device, and coming in at R25 999, it’s quite a bit cheaper than the top-of-the-line Z Fold 6 which costs R45 999.

The foldables might have the advantage of folding but that’s all they offer. Samsung hasn’t found new, unique ways to interact with these devices and ultimately, the way you’re using a foldable is the same way you’re using and interacting with a candybar phone. Samsung’s S24 series continues to be a compelling trio of devices which undercut their foldable counterparts in pricing whilst bringing better on paper specs, the same 7 years of support that the Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 offer and Galaxy AI. For now, there’s no major reason to buy a foldable phone, be it the Galaxy Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6 or one from any other brand because it doesn’t offer any benefits to justify the higher costs and the durability, camera and battery sacrifices you’re making, and I’m not the only one who feels this way.
