OPPO, the technology smart device brand, has a lot to celebrate this month. Aside from being a year old in South Africa, the brand is now largely available in all operators with Telkom now joining.
OPPO launched locally during the pandemic, facing the challenge of carving a distinct identity and loyal customer base, at a time when it was not possible to have physical customer interactions. According to the company, it was a rewarding challenge that gave the brand an opportunity to be innovative in its approach, coming into the market by first its low-range products, and ramping up to the premium range, as South Africans became familiar with OPPO. At the core of this approach was introducing affordable, world-class technology that offers quality products, and greater access to telecommunications for the upwardly mobile South African customers.
This approach has led to the brand selling more than 100 000 units since its launch last year. This significant growth means that Oppo is now placed within the top four smart brands in South Africa.
“We don’t compromise on any design for any device. At OPPO, we believe in creating a technology that does more but costs less, while perfectly combining aesthetics and capabilities,” says Liam Faurie Head of GTM and Operations at OPPO South Africa.
Faurie continued by saying, “Working with Telkom, one of South Africa’s most affordable telecommunication retailers, we’re able to offer our users the best value for money.
It has been an exciting year and one that we’re proud of. The best is yet to come, and we’re thrilled to continue to supersede customer expectations when it comes to the capabilities and price points of our devices” he concludes.
OPPO devices will be available from Telkom starting 26 September 2021.
“We are delighted to partner with OPPO to bring this incredible brand to our customers, as part of a/our continuous drive towards enabling access to innovative and compelling products and services. Now South Africans can join millions of people around the world who get to experience OPPO technology; taking us a step closer to our mission, to leave no man behind,” said Gugu Mthembu – Telkom’s Chief Marketing Officer.
