Nissan is showcasing its motorsport and electric vehicle expertise with a series of public activations in South Africa ahead of the ABB FIA Formula-E World Championship race in Cape Town. These activations will bring the excitement of the Cape Town E-Prix to popular shopping malls in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, and Western Cape, giving speed enthusiasts the chance to get behind the wheel of Nissan’s Formula-E racecar through a virtual simulation experience.
As the first and only Japanese manufacturer in Formula-E, Nissan is eager to demonstrate its commitment to sustainability and electrified future. The company’s Formula-E team is working to expand electric vehicle technologies, with their research and development directly contributing to the development of consumer cars. The third-generation Formula-E racecar is packed with 40% more power than its predecessor, reaching speeds of over 320 km/h.
Nissan has also partnered with top drivers, Norman Nato and Sacha Fenestraz, who will be representing the company on the starting grid in Cape Town for the fifth round of the championship season.
The public activations will take place at several shopping centers in South Africa, including the Menlyn Park Shopping Centre in Pretoria, the Eastgate Shopping Centre in Johannesburg, the Gateway Theatre of Shopping and the Pavilion Shopping Centre in KwaZulu-Natal, and the Blue Route Mall and Tyger Valley Shopping Centre in Western Cape. These events will take place between February 3rd and February 19th and will provide a glimpse into the potential of future electric vehicles.
“Nissan’s participation in Formula-E is the perfect showcase of our ambitions as the company charges towards an electrified future in support of our sustainability goals,” said Kabelo Rabotho, Country Director at Nissan South Africa.
Nissan’s public activations are a fantastic opportunity for South African residents to experience the thrill of electric motorsport and learn more about Nissan’s commitment to sustainability and electrification.
