LG is bringing it’s latest true wireless buds – simply called Tone Free – to South Africa.
Made in partnership with international audio experts Meridian, LG says that the Tone Free buds provide clear, spatial sound for a fully immersive listening experience.
A unique listening experience with clear, spatial sound
Meridian’s Headphone Spatial Processing (HSP) technology has been used to create four enhanced presets to automatically ensure the best settings for whatever it is you’re listening to. Each preset has been designed to suit different genres and user preferences for a customised, true-to-sound experience.
- Immersive – Gives an expanded sense of space and is best for gaming and movies.
- Natural – Delivers balanced sound for all types of music.
- Bass Boost – Provides an extra punch. Choose this for pop and electronic music.
- Treble Boost – Hear more articulate vocals. Great for jazz and classical music.
Looking for even more customisation? Well, you’re also able to tailor the sound based on your own needs with an in-app equaliser.
A wireless, germ-killing charging case
The UVnano charging case that comes with the Tone Free HBS-FN6 uses ultraviolet light to kill 99.9% of bacteria that may be present on the earbuds. This function takes 10 minutes when the charging case is connected to a power source. This is great news considering studies show that earbuds can harbour more bacteria than a kitchen cutting board, leading to potential ear infections.
The Tone Free HBS-FN6 model has an innovative wireless charging case that makes tangled cables a thing of the past. Charging your earbuds is quick, easy, and hassle-free. A single charge of the case will give you a total of 18 hours of on-the-go battery life: six hours of playback in the earbuds and an extra 12 hours in the charging case. If you’re running short on time, a super-fast five-minute charge will give you an impressive hour of playback.

The Tone Free buds, which come in both black and white, have built-in, high-performance dual microphones for maximum call clarity. Noise Reduction and Echo Cancellation detect and minimise unwanted noise, so you won’t need to raise your voice or repeat yourself on calls. Because the microphone is positioned at the end of the stem, it picks up and amplifies your voice, assisting you when taking calls in crowded spaces.
Ambient Sound Mode makes it easy to hear your surroundings with just a tap. If you are listening to music and want to quickly have a conversation, listen to the world around you, or cross a busy street, a simple tap on the earbuds will let you hear what you need. If, instead, you’re trying to block out the world, the snug-fitting tips create a tight seal that blocks out most distracting noise, helping you get in the zone.
Even better, the earbuds are intuitive, sensing when they’re in your ears and immediately pairing with your phone. When you take them out, your music will automatically pause without you having to push a single button. And, of course, they are enabled with Voice Command features for convenient voice access to Google Assistant or Siri on a connected smartphone.
All-day comfort and water resistance
Keeping your ears healthy, comfortable, and safe is a priority for LG. That’s why they’ve used soft, medical-grade ear gels made from non-toxic and hypoallergenic silicone. The silicone conforms to your ear shape so your LG Tone earbuds are comfortable for longer. With three sizes to choose from and a canal-type design, the only thing you’ll have to worry about is forgetting you have them in!
To keep up with your needs, the LG Tone Free earbuds have an IPX4 water resistance rating for sweat and rain. This means you’ll have no problem listening to your jams while working up a sweat at the gym or if you get caught walking in the rain.
All three models in the new range were meant to be available in South Africa from the end of October 2020, however, LG South Africa’s website still has them listed as “launching soon” at the time of publishing.
