Samsung’s new foldable to be called the Galaxy Z Flip

Samsung’s Unpacked event on 11 February is where the company is expected to unveil the Galaxy S20 (not the S11) series, but rumors indicate that the company will also be unveiling a new foldable device which many believed the be the Galaxy Fold 2.

Recent rumours suggested that the new foldable would instead be named the Galaxy Bloom, but according to renowned leaker Ice Universe (@UniverseIce), it appears that Galaxy Bloom was just a codename for the handset which will actually be called the Galaxy Z Flip.

The Z Flip is a clamshell style foldable much like Motorola’s rehashed RAZR and is inspired by a woman’s makeup compact from French cosmetics juggernaut, Lancôme, according to an article by SamMobile.

Samsung’s Z Flip is expected to have 8K video recording capabilities, like the Galaxy S20 series, and is rumoured to be using a folding glass display instead of the plastic polymer found on the Galaxy Fold.

The Z naming convention implies that this could be a new range that Samsung is working on, but hopefully not one targeted at Gen Z as my friend Andy Walker suggested.
