Despite being a relative newcomer to South Africa, OPPO appears to be intent on moving as fast as they can when it comes to bringing new mid-range, and upper mid-range, devices to the country.
Having recently launched the Reno5 5G, the company has announced the launch of the OPPO A74 5G in South Africa.
With this latest addition, there are now 5 smartphone models available, including the tech giant’s first premium offering, the Reno5 5G which launched in March.

All-day AI
Available for the first time on an OPPO phone in South Africa is the company’s All-day AI Eye Comfort, which allows for automatic screen colour and brightness adjustment dependent on the user’s surroundings. By all accounts, this sounds like this is OPPO’s version of Apple’s True Tone technology.
The specifics
The A74 features a “Hyper-colour Screen” that enhances the display’s vibrancy that when coupled with the 90Hz refresh rate creates a smoother more immersive user experience according to the brand. It also boasts a 90.5% screen to body ratio with a 2400 x 1080 resolution.
It also packs a 5000mAh 18W fast charge battery which OPPO says allows for multi-day usage.
On the camera front, the phone comes fitted with a 16MP front camera and a 48MP rear camera with the ability to capture 108MP photos through software upscaling.
The A74 5G is powered by Android 11 with OPPO’s ColorOS, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 5G chipset and an Adreno 619 GPU.
